New Bunmahon Coastguard Facility
Green Party T.D. for Waterford, Marc Ó Cathasaigh, welcomes the opening of the new Bunmahon Coast Guard facility. The new facility which includes kit rooms, will improve training capabilities and provide the unit with much needed storage space for equipment and vehicles. Fibre broadband provision should allow the unit to potentially send out drones to provide live feedback to the station which help inform decision making regarding sending out rescue crews. Work commenced on the facility last September.
Speaking today, Dep. Marc Ó Cathasaigh said:
“This government has invested €5.3m in the new purpose built coastguard station at Bunmahon, recognising the need for our dedicated volunteers to have modern and fit for purpose facilities from which to work. “
“The Irish Coast Guard and volunteer crews have carried out challenging search and cliff rescues over the years and their shoreline and cliff rescue capabilities are vital for our coastal communities. I welcome the significant investment from this government in the coastguard station and am delighted to see it come to fruition”.
