Construction will commence shortly on the second Cath Lab for University Hospital Waterford.
Waterford TD Marc Ó Cathasaigh has welcomed the news that Waterford company Tom O’Brien Construction have been awarded the contract to build the second Cath Lab for University Hospital Waterford (UHW) and construction will commence the first week of May.
“This announcement was a long time coming and so many people have campaigned long and hard over the last few years. It is a testament to their hard work. When I ran for election last year, I gave my word that I would do everything I could to help deliver this and I fought, as one of the Green Party negotiating team, to ensure that the second Cath Lab was in the Programme for Government.”
“Over the last few months, the cross-party co-operation with my Oireachtas colleagues Minister Mary Butler, David Cullinane TD, Senator John Cummins and Matt Shanahan TD has seen us work together on this to drive it forward and to deliver a high end facility for Waterford and the region.”
“There has been historic under-funding of Waterford and Waterford projects in the past but we are seeing a change in that now under this government. The next stage in the Cath Lab process is to get it built. We will then move onto equipping it with the same equipment recently installed in the newly upgraded existing Cath Lab so the facility will have full interventional capabilities. The final stage will be staffing it so that UHW can provide the first class 24/7 Cardiac Care facility we all deserve.”
